The quad-core Core i7-7820hk, two Toshiba 512gb NVMe M.2

The Predator 21X was made by Acer.  The Predator 21X is the kind of gaming laptop that was built to show what hardware makers can accomplish if all common sense and logic were thrown out of the picture.  It has a price tag of $9,000 and is a beast of a laptop.  The reason why it’s so expensive are because of the components used to make it.  Due to the bulk of the laptop and the components in it, the laptop weighs almost nineteen pounds.

The Predator 21X has a 21-inch curved screen.  The rating of the curve on the screen is 2000R.  The screen panel has a resolution of 2560×1080 and it supports G-Sync with a refresh rate of 120Hz. Due to the fact of the panel having refresh rate and G-Sync means everything is smoother.  The maximum brightness on the panel is at 420nits and it has a decent off-axis support and a light anti-glare finish.  Two GeForce GTX 1080 cards were used to drive the 2.8-megapixel screen.  Other features of the laptop include a quad-core Core i7-7820hk, two Toshiba 512gb NVMe M.2 drives, 64GB of DDR4/2400, and a 1TB hard drive.

The keyboard for the Predator 21X is a full-height mechanical keyboard that uses Cherry MX brown switches.  Also, the keys on the keyboard are individually RGB-lit.  The WASD keys are colored for easy locating while gaming, but if you don’t like the colored keys Acer included black keys in the box.  Under the display, there is an integrated Tobii Eyex tracker, and a trackpad that is rather unique.  The trackpad is located to the right of the keys and can be flipped over to reveal a 10-key pad, it is attached by magnets.  However, the keys on the pad are not mechanical.

When it comes to ports the Predator 21X has quite a few that you can use.  The types of ports it has include one Thunderbolt 3, two Display Ports, four USB 3.0 Type A, and one HDMI 2.0.  Additionally, there is a SD Card reader, Gigabit Ethernet, analog mic and headphone port, and a Kensington lock slot.  It is quite obvious that the Predator offers a nice amount of ports, but now to talk about the power of the laptop.

As expected for a laptop with so much hardware, it takes big amount of power to run.  Since there are no available external bricks larger than 330-watts, Acer has to slave two 330-watt bricks together.  Both bricks get its own port to use on the back.  Since they are both identical, there is no specific order needed to plug them in.  Acer, as to show how much thought was put into the Predator 21X, included a stylish rubber strand to hold the AC adapters together.  Acer decorated the band with the Predator logo and gave it an X shape.  The rubber strand adds a touch you would expect from a premium machine.

The laptops power consumption generally sits at the 400-watt range under a graphically intense workload such as Furmark.  There is an interesting behavior the laptop exhibits: When or if you push the GPUs hard running Furmark, while the CPU and GPUs are overclocked, and then suddenly  pull the plug, the Predator 21X will immediately cut power to the laptop.  What you would expect from any other laptop, is for it to switch to over to the internal battery.  But when you consider the formidable power load the Predator 21X has, it is probably best for it to turn off compared to shoving a 440-watt load onto the onboard batteries in a millisecond.  The Predator 21X behaves in a more civil matter when there is not a big load on it.  Unplugging in this kind of state will just switch off the overclock and severely ratchet back the GPU clock speeds.
